Nobody was immune to the charms of the Persian setting of the stories. Alif Laila was a heartthrob of young and old alike. These are the likes of Aladdin and his Magical Lamp, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Sinbad the Sailor and His Seven Voyages. However, a few of them require some special mention. The stories enacted in the series are all very interesting and mystifying. Shah Nawaz was the lead actor who played the protagonist of most of the gripping tales included in the series. And this ensured that the televised production of these stories, an idea of the genius Ramanand Sagar who produced many such masterpieces, went on to become extremely popular. These tales are a part of the Indian culture and close to the heart of the people here, as they have spent their childhood listening these tales form their parents and grandparents. Alif Laila was based on the evergreen tales of The Arabian Nights. Though the script is native to India, the charm if the series was spread far and wide over the whole of the Indian subcontinent. Alif Laila is regarded as one of the most popular and commercially successful T.V.
